Informal Recruitment

YEAR-ROUND IFC RECRUITMENT

Informal Recruitment lets you explore Greek Life at your own pace, whether you're an incoming first-year or transfer student, or an upperclassman at the UW.

RUSH ON YOUR OWN TERMS

Informal Recruitment is an independent, unstructured process available year-round to any UW student. There's no fixed timeline and no single starting point; you engage with fraternities however and whenever works for you. You can express interest by signing up for an account on ChapterBuilder and the chapter recruitment chairmen will reach out directly, or you can browse individual fraternity profiles and contact chapters yourself.

THE PROCESS

While Informal Recruitment is flexible, most PNMs follow a natural arc from first contact to joining a chapter.

  1. Sign up and get contacted

Sign up for ChapterBuilder, our recruitment website, and fraternity recruitment chairmen will reach out with invitations to upcoming events within a few days.

  1. Attend events at your own pace

Go to the events of fraternities that interest you. This will give you the opportunity to see each chapter's culture, brothers, and values.

  1. Build connections

Fraternities typically invite you out 3–4 times to see if you're a natural fit with the brotherhood. The goal isn't to try to impress, but to find a brotherhood that wants you for you.

  1. Receive and sign a bid

When a fraternity wants you to join, they'll extend a “bid”, or a formal invitation to become a member. Sign it, and your recruitment process is complete.

Informal Recruitment is a great fit if Primary Recruitment Week doesn't align with your schedule, if you're mid-year and just started thinking about Greek Life, or if you simply want more time to explore chapters before committing. Many of UW's current Greek members found their chapter through Informal Recruitment. Whatever path you take, the Fraternity community welcomes you with open arms.
